This Phoenix museum is devoted to the art and cultures of Native peoples of the American Southwest, presented in close collaboration with the communities it represents. Housed in a Spanish Colonial Revival building around shaded courtyards, its galleries display Hopi katsina dolls, Navajo weaving, jewelry, and contemporary Indigenous art. A powerful long-term exhibit examines the history of Native American boarding schools. The museum hosts a major annual hoop-dance championship and a juried market.
