At the mouth of Emigration Canyon, where Mormon pioneers first entered the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, this living-history park recreates a 19th-century settlement with relocated and reconstructed period buildings. A tall monument marks the spot where Brigham Young is said to have declared the valley the right place to settle. Costumed interpreters demonstrate blacksmithing, weaving, and pioneer crafts, and visitors can pan for gold or ride a train and pony. The site interprets the hardships of the overland trek and the settlement's early years.
