Operated by the Virginia Historical Society, this museum in Richmond's Museum District holds one of the deepest collections documenting the state's four centuries of history. Exhibits trace Virginia's story from Indigenous peoples and early colonial settlement through the Revolution, the Civil War, and the modern era, drawing on manuscripts, portraits, weapons, and everyday objects. A series of large murals depicts scenes from the state's past around the galleries.
