The Presidential Palace of São Tomé and Príncipe occupies a colonial-era building in the heart of the island capital, serving as the seat of the head of state. Its pink and white facade, arcaded veranda and shuttered windows are typical of Portuguese tropical architecture adapted to the equatorial climate. The palace overlooks a public square near the waterfront, surrounded by ministries and other government offices. As the symbolic centre of national governance, it reflects the nation's shift from plantation colony to independent republic.
