Quebra Canela is the main urban beach of Praia, a sheltered crescent of golden sand on the western edge of the Cape Verdean capital. Backed by a promenade and a scatter of cafés, it is a favoured spot for city residents to swim, socialise and watch the sunset over the Atlantic. Calm waters and easy access make it popular with families, while weekend crowds give it a lively atmosphere. Its proximity to the city centre makes it the most convenient stretch of coast for a break from the streets of the capital.
