State House at Le Réduit is the official residence of the President of Mauritius, set within landscaped grounds in the Moka district near the capital. Originally built in the eighteenth century as a French colonial refuge, the elegant mansion was rebuilt and expanded under successive governors. Its gardens overlook a deep river gorge and contain rare trees, ornamental ponds and sweeping lawns. Occasionally opened for special events, the estate embodies the transition of Mauritius from colonial governance to independent statehood.
