Antaninarenina

Antaninarenina is one of the most elegant districts of central Antananarivo, arranged around the grand Place de l'Indépendance. Lined with colonial-era buildings, banks and the landmark Hôtel Colbert, it functions as a genteel commercial quarter on the middle slopes of the city. The broad avenue leading from the square is a favoured promenade, busy in the cooler evenings when residents gather beneath the arcades. The neighbourhood preserves much of the French colonial architecture that shaped the capital's early appearance.
