The Cathedral of Beira is the principal Roman Catholic church of Mozambique's second city, a substantial stone building constructed in the early twentieth century partly from material salvaged from the old fort at Sofala. Serving the port that grew as an outlet for the interior, it is a major landmark of the colonial-era city centre. Its twin-towered façade and spacious nave reflect the ambitions of the growing coastal town. It remains one of Beira's most prominent historic buildings.
