Cyrene Mission

Cyrene Mission near Bulawayo is an Anglican mission school celebrated for the school of religious mural painting that developed there in the mid-twentieth century. Under an influential missionary teacher, students produced vivid biblical scenes set in African landscapes across the walls and chapel of the mission, creating a distinctive body of work that gained international attention. The painted chapel remains the centrepiece, its interior covered in narrative frescoes by Zimbabwean artists.
