The Moto Moto Museum near Mbala holds one of Zambia's most important ethnographic collections, founded on material gathered by a Catholic missionary in the mid-twentieth century. Its galleries document the traditions of the Bemba and neighbouring peoples, with displays on initiation rites, chieftainship, ironworking, music and religion. The museum also covers the region's role in the closing days of the First World War in Africa. It functions as a regional research centre and remains a key repository for the study of northern Zambian culture.
