A museum on the University of the Witwatersrand campus dedicated to the origins of humankind and the art and beliefs of southern Africa's earliest peoples. Its galleries explore human evolution, ancient stone-tool technologies and the rich rock-art traditions of the San, drawing on the region's exceptional archaeological record. Interactive displays, reproductions of painted panels and film interpret hundreds of thousands of years of history. The centre complements the nearby fossil sites of the Cradle of Humankind.
