The National Museum of Chad in N'Djamena preserves the country's archaeological and ethnographic heritage, most famously casts and displays related to the ancient hominid fossils discovered in the Djurab desert. Its galleries present prehistoric finds, traditional artefacts, musical instruments and objects illustrating the many ethnic groups of the vast Sahelian nation. The museum links the deep human past of the region, including some of the oldest hominid remains known, to the living cultures of modern Chad.
