The Cathedral of Our Lady of Candelaria is the Roman Catholic cathedral of Bissau, a modernist church built in the mid-twentieth century in the city centre. Its restrained concrete tower rises above the low colonial streets and serves the Christian community of the capital. The building marks the seat of the diocese in a country of mixed Muslim, Christian and traditional beliefs. Simple in form, it is one of the principal religious landmarks of Bissau and a point of orientation in the old town.
