The Grand Marché de Ouagadougou, known locally as Rood Woko, is the central market of the Burkinabè capital, a vast multi-storey complex in the heart of downtown. Rebuilt after a major fire, it houses thousands of vendors selling fabrics, leatherwork, bronze casts and foodstuffs. The market is a centre for the country's celebrated bronze and craft traditions, prized by collectors of African art. Crowded and labyrinthine, it forms the commercial nucleus of the city and a key destination for both residents and visitors.
