This seaside fortress stands at the edge of the Hammamet medina, its thick walls rising from the rocks where the old town meets the beach. Originally raised to defend the coast against raiders, it later anchored the town's ring of fortifications. A climb to the ramparts and the tower rewards visitors with panoramas over the whitewashed houses, the little harbour and the sweep of the bay. Framed by bright Mediterranean water, the kasbah is the emblematic sight of Hammamet and the natural starting point for exploring its historic core.
