The Jameh Mosque of Kerman is the principal congregational mosque of the city, founded in the fourteenth century and noted for the vivid tilework of its portal and prayer halls. Arranged around a courtyard with four iwans, its surfaces are covered in intricate blue and turquoise mosaic faience typical of Iranian religious architecture. A tall entrance portal and later additions record centuries of use and repair. Visitors can walk the arcaded courtyard and study the glazed inscriptions and geometric patterns of this desert city.
