The Tomb of Ezra, known locally as Al-Uzair, stands beside the Tigris in southern Iraq and is traditionally revered as the burial place of the biblical scribe Ezra. Long a place of pilgrimage for the region's Jewish community before their departure in the twentieth century, the shrine combines a domed tomb chamber with a synagogue in a riverside setting. Its blue-tiled dome and decorated interior reflect the layered religious heritage of Mesopotamia. Visitors can view the shrine on the riverbank and its ancient associations.
