The Victory Arch, also known as the Hands of Victory, is a pair of triumphal arches in central Baghdad, each formed by two crossed swords held aloft by giant bronze forearms. Commissioned in the 1980s to mark the end of a long war, the monument's blades sweep together high above a parade ground, framing the ceremonial route below. Its scale and imagery make it one of the most recognizable landmarks of the modern capital. Visitors approaching along the avenue pass beneath the crossed blades toward the far arch.
