The Azadi Tower marks the western gateway to Tehran, a white marble monument built in the 1970s to commemorate the long history of the Persian empire. Its inverted-Y form blends Sassanid arch geometry with Islamic vaulting, and the faceted stone was cut to a precise mathematical scheme. Beneath the tower lie a museum and audiovisual hall, while a lift and stairs reach an upper viewing gallery. Standing at the centre of a large public square, it has served as a backdrop for national gatherings and remains a city emblem.
