The Reza Abbasi Museum in eastern Tehran is named after a celebrated painter of the Safavid court and specializes in the decorative and pictorial arts of Iran. Its collection spans pre-Islamic bronzes and pottery through Islamic-era calligraphy, lacquerwork, and miniature painting, arranged so visitors move roughly in chronological order across compact galleries. The holdings of manuscript illustration and metalwork make it a focused counterpoint to the larger national collections. Carved seals and illuminated Qur'ans reward close study.
