Saar

An archaeological site in northern Bahrain preserving the remains of a Bronze Age settlement associated with the ancient Dilmun civilisation. Excavations have revealed a planned village of stone houses laid out along streets, together with a temple and an extensive field of burial mounds. The finds have shed light on daily life, trade and religion in one of the region's earliest urban cultures. Set in the countryside outside Manama, the site offers a tangible link to Bahrain's deep antiquity as a centre of Gulf trade.
