The ceremonial avenue leading to the sultan's palace in old Muscat, flanked by government buildings, embassies and restored heritage structures. The street runs between two historic Portuguese-era forts on the surrounding hills toward the colonnaded palace facade. Kept immaculately clean and often decorated for state occasions, it forms the ceremonial heart of the old capital. Visitors walk the avenue to view the palace gates and the dramatic setting of forts and sea, taking in one of the most photographed vistas in the sultanate.
