Al-Manara Square is the central plaza and best-known landmark of Ramallah, marking the meeting point of the main streets radiating through the city. At its centre stands a monument decorated with carved lions, a symbol closely associated with the town. The square is the busy heart of commercial and social life, ringed by shops, cafés, and money changers, and a gathering place during celebrations and demonstrations. As the symbolic centre of the city, it is the point around which daily life revolves.
