A small early medieval church on a hill near the town of Artik in the Shirak region of Armenia, dating from around the seventh century. Built of dark stone in a compact domed plan, it is prized for the fragments of early wall paintings that survive in its apse, rare examples from the period. The church stands alone amid open highland fields with wide views over the surrounding plateau. Its antiquity and the survival of its frescoes make it a significant monument for the study of early Armenian art and architecture.
