A rare seventh-century funerary monument in a village of the southern Syunik region of Armenia, an unusual free-standing memorial from the early medieval period. Built of finely cut stone, it takes the form of an arcaded platform once topped by a canopy, erected to commemorate a local nobleman. Such tomb monuments are uncommon survivals in Armenian architecture, making it of special interest to historians. Standing beside the village amid the mountains of the far south, it draws travellers exploring the region's heritage.
