A 13th-century church set in a mountain valley of the Adjara region in southwestern Georgia, the only surviving medieval church in the area. Built of stone in the classic Georgian style, it stands among wooded slopes near the upper reaches of a river, a reminder of the region's Christian heritage before centuries of Ottoman rule. Fragments of old frescoes survive inside. Restored in recent decades, the isolated cathedral draws visitors travelling through the scenic highlands and those interested in the layered religious history of the region.
