An early medieval domed church set in a scenic gorge south of Gori in central Georgia, dating from around the seventh century. It belongs to a distinctive tetraconch design and is prized above all for its interior frescoes, painted in the 11th century, which include royal portraits and rare inscriptions. The surrounding valley is known for its vineyards producing a local sparkling wine. The mix of ancient architecture, well-preserved wall paintings and a tranquil rural setting rewards visitors exploring the region.
