The Minarets of Ghazni are a pair of tall brick towers standing on the plain outside the old city, all that survives above ground of the grand Ghaznavid capital that flourished around the twelfth century. Once likely attached to mosques, they are famed for their elaborate geometric brickwork and star-shaped bases, and originally rose considerably higher before losing their upper storeys. They are counted among the finest examples of medieval Islamic architecture in the region.
