Talakha Monastery sits high on a mountainside south of Thimphu, reached by a rough track and steep walk that rewards the effort with one of the widest panoramas over the valley and, in clear weather, distant Himalayan peaks. The modest monastery, of considerable age, remains a quiet retreat for practitioners well above the noise of the capital. Its elevation makes it a popular short trekking objective, with meadows and forest along the approach. The combination of a working shrine and a commanding viewpoint defines its appeal.
