The Royal Botanical Park at Lamperi lies along the Dochula corridor east of Thimphu, protecting a swathe of temperate forest famed for the wild rhododendrons that bloom across the hillsides in spring. Nature trails wind past lakes, wetlands and a visitor centre that explains the region's plant and animal life, including pheasants and occasional larger mammals. The park doubles as a place for gentle walks and picnics amid old-growth forest at high elevation. Set near the pass with its mountain views, it complements the nearby chortens.
