Ranipauwa is the small settlement of lodges and shops that serves pilgrims and trekkers visiting the sacred Muktinath temple high in the Mustang region. Set on a windswept plateau above the Kali Gandaki valley at nearly 3,700 metres, it is the overnight base for those crossing the Thorong La or arriving by the jeep road from Jomsom. Rows of teahouses cater to Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims alike, and the bare high-altitude landscape opens to sweeping horizons.
