Brief Garden

The landscaped estate of the artist and landscape architect Bevis Bawa, Brief Garden lies in the hills near Bentota in southwest Sri Lanka. Over decades Bawa shaped the grounds into a lush, informal composition of terraces, ponds, sculptures and dense tropical planting that spills down the hillside. His former house, filled with art and eclectic collections, is open to visitors, and the garden's shaded paths reveal statues and vistas at every turn.
