A slender spiral tower crowning a forested peak near Gampola in central Sri Lanka, Ambuluwawa is the centrepiece of a multi-religious complex representing the island's Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian traditions. Visitors climb a dizzyingly narrow external staircase that winds up the tapering white structure to a viewing platform with sweeping panoramas of the surrounding hills and valleys. The biodiversity reserve around it protects native plants and birds.
