A ghost town within the old capital region of Sonargaon, Panam Nagar is a preserved street of decaying merchant mansions built by wealthy Hindu traders in the colonial era. A single lane is lined with ornate brick and stucco houses whose columns, arches and faded plasterwork evoke the town's prosperous heyday. Abandoned after mid-twentieth-century upheavals, the buildings now stand in atmospheric ruin, drawing photographers and history enthusiasts.
