A temple of the sleeping Buddha set within the wooded grounds beneath the western hills, named for the great bronze reclining figure enshrined in its main hall. The image, cast in the fourteenth century under Mongol rule, depicts the Buddha at the moment of passing into nirvana surrounded by mourning disciples. Ancient cypresses and a hall of glazed archways add to the historic setting. Because it sits amid extensive gardens, visitors often combine the venerable temple with strolls through nearby plant collections.
