Rising above the Neisse river on the Polish border, this late-Gothic parish church dominates the skyline of a town famous for its unusually intact historic centre. Its twin towers and vaulted nave date largely from the fifteenth century, though the interior was reworked in Baroque style. The church is renowned for the Sonnenorgel, an organ whose pipes are arranged in sunburst rosettes and which includes a rare stop imitating birdsong. A distinctive feature is the lower church of St George beneath the main sanctuary, reached by a separate stair.
