A maritime museum in the northern port of Siglufjörður, recalling the boom decades when herring fishing made the town one of the busiest fishing stations in the north Atlantic. Housed in restored salting stations and a boathouse along the quay, it recreates the frantic work of gutting and salting the catch that once employed thousands. Old boats, machinery and workers' quarters fill the buildings, vividly conveying the vanished industry beneath steep fjord walls.
