A reconstructed Viking-age longhouse in the Haukadalur valley of the west, on the farm traditionally identified as the home of Erik the Red and birthplace of his son Leif, the explorer credited with reaching North America. Built beside the excavated ruins of the original dwelling, the turf and timber hall is furnished and staffed in period style. Costumed guides demonstrate crafts and recount the sagas of the family's voyages. The green valley setting links the farm to a great exploration story.
