A small turf-walled church in the Skagafjörður district, one of the best preserved examples of the traditional sod-built churches that once dotted the countryside. Built in the mid nineteenth century, it has thick earth walls, a grassed roof and a timber interior painted in muted colours. A low turf enclosure surrounds the graveyard. Such churches were the norm before imported timber and metal became widespread. The dark wooden gable set against the green sod walls, framed by open pasture, makes it a much-photographed rural landmark.
