A large walled enclosure north of Dublin that served as the manorial residence of the archbishops of Dublin from the medieval period. Rather than a single keep, it comprises a pentagonal circuit of walls with a gatehouse, chapel and towers ranged around a green court. Never a true military fortress, it functioned as an administrative and ecclesiastical centre. Restored in recent decades, it hosts events and exhibitions and has featured as a filming location, its long curtain walls enclosing a spacious inner ward.
