One of the finest high crosses in the north, standing over five metres tall on the western shore of Lough Neagh at the site of an early monastery. Its sandstone faces carry more than twenty carved biblical scenes, from Adam and Eve to the crucifixion, arranged in panels up the shaft and head. Weathering has softened the figures, but the narrative sequence remains legible in raking light. The cross rises beside the ruins of a later church and graveyard, with the vast lough spreading out beyond.

Where next?

The world is wide open.
