The oldest part of the town of Suzdal, this fortified nucleus on a bend of the Kamenka River preserves earthen ramparts and a cluster of medieval and later monuments at the heart of the Golden Ring. Its centrepiece is the Cathedral of the Nativity, with blue star-spangled domes and famous carved and gilded doors, alongside the bishops' chambers that now house museum displays. As part of the White Monuments of the region, the Kremlin embodies the early architecture of medieval Rus and anchors visits to the historic town.
