Perched atop Mount Akhun above Sochi, this stone observation tower offers one of the finest panoramas over the Black Sea coast and the Caucasus foothills. Built in the 1930s in a romantic medieval-revival style, its crenellated form rises about thirty metres, with a spiral stair leading to viewing galleries. From the summit, sweeping views take in the resort city, the sea and, on clear days, snow-capped peaks inland. Surrounded by forest and reached by a winding mountain road, it is a classic excursion.
