The maritime passenger terminal of Sochi is an architectural landmark of the Black Sea coast, celebrated as a showpiece of grand Stalinist style completed in the early 1950s. Its most recognisable feature is a tall tapering spire crowned with a star and topped by sculptural figures symbolising the seasons and the points of the compass. The building and its embankment, with fountains and palm-lined promenades, form a focal point of the resort's waterfront. It appeared in classic Soviet cinema and still serves cruise traffic.
