The surrounding Raadi estate grounds frame the modern glass hall of the national museum on the northeastern edge of Tartu. The parkland was once a manor with formal gardens and a lake, later used as a Soviet military airfield whose long runway inspired the museum's dramatic sloping roofline. Walking paths lead past the old manor ruins, ponds and open lawns that host outdoor events. The grounds link the historic estate landscape with contemporary architecture, offering a green setting for a stroll before or after visiting the exhibits.
