This former river island on the Sava, now joined to the bank, is Belgrade's most popular recreation ground and is often called the city's sea. A lake formed by damming a channel offers swimming, rowing, and long pebble beaches backed by dense woodland. Cycling and jogging paths ring the water, and cafés, sports courts, and an adventure park draw crowds through the warm months. On summer weekends thousands of residents escape here, making it a defining feature of everyday leisure in the capital.
