Routes of Santiago de Compostela: Camino Francés and Routes of Northern Spain

Four ancient roads to Santiago thread the green north of Spain — the Coastal, Basque–La Rioja interior, Liébana and Primitive ways — extending the pilgrimage network first inscribed by UNESCO in 1993 with the Camino Francés. Along almost 1,500 kilometres march cathedrals, churches, hospitals, hostels and bridges built for pilgrims after a tomb held to be St James the Greater's was found in the 9th century. Walkers still wear these paths smooth today.
