Księży Młyn is a remarkably complete 19th-century industrial district in Łódź, built by the textile magnate Karol Scheibler as a self-contained factory settlement. Around the great red-brick spinning mill stand rows of workers' housing, a school, a hospital, a fire station and the owner's villa, all planned as a single community. Long neglected, the quarter has been revitalised with lofts, galleries and design studios while retaining its atmospheric cobbled streets and monumental façades.
