This quiet early medieval church near the Aurelian Walls preserves a rare atmosphere of the Roman Middle Ages, set among cypresses beside the ancient Latin Gate. Founded in the fifth century and rebuilt in the twelfth, it retains a portico, a slender bell tower, and reused antique columns dividing its three aisles. The interior is celebrated for an extensive cycle of Romanesque frescoes depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments, painted around the twelfth century.
