On the Grands Boulevards, this waxwork museum has displayed lifelike figures of famous personalities since the late 19th century, making it one of the oldest of its kind. Founded by a caricaturist and named after its first artistic director, it presents historical scenes, contemporary celebrities and tableaux of French history in richly decorated halls. The building itself is a period showpiece, boasting a mirrored ballroom, a marble staircase and a domed hall of columns surviving from the Belle Époque.
